Carl Barks Library Cover Sets

Back in the early 1980s, when Another Rainbow launched the world-famous Carl Barks Library, it was decided to run off some extra color copies of the color plates used in printing the set - in a beautiiful and large 12-1/4" x 8-5/8" format. They sold out quickly! Every effort was made to make these untrimmed recreations look as if Carl had colored them himself. Envelopes are in VG condition and all plates are NM-MT. Get em while they last! (See individual descriptions below.)

SET I & II - The portfolio of art contained in this envelope reproduces sixty covers from The Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney's Donald Duck (Sets I & II), which originally appeared on Donald Duck Four Color and Donald Duck comic books from 1942-1969. Twenty-four of these covers appear in a large 12 ¼” X 8 5/8” format for the first time. Every effort has been made to make these untrimmed recreations look as if Carl Barks, or the original artists who drew them had also done their own coloring.
Barks did not do all of the covers from this period, although over half of the oversized covers are by him.
Thirty-six smaller full-color covers are reproduced in groups on the reverse of the large prints, along with notes to the covers indicating when and where they originally appeared and which ones are by Barks. The reverse pages also include a number of one-page gags, examples of Barks' oil paintings, and more.
As an added bonus, there are copies of the slipcase covers of Sets I & II, both of which are based on classic Donald Duck adventures and both of which have been updated especially for the Library by Barks.

SET III - The portfolio of art contained in this envelope reproduces the classic covers of the first twenty issues of Uncle Scrooge comics as they appear in Set III of The Carl Barks Library. These covers originally appeared between 1952-1958 in the smaller, regular comic book format, but are done here in a beautifully rendered 12 ¼” X 8 5/8” size. These all show the full untrimmed pages of art, just as Barks drew them! Every effort has been made in these recreations to make them look as they might have if Carl Barks had originally colored them himself. All covers in this set are by Barks.
Also included is the slipcase cover, drawn and colored by Barks especially for the Library. The reverse pages include Uncle Scrooge one page gag fillers, and threee editorial commentaries on his stories by the Duck Man himself.

Set IV - The portfolio of art contained in this envelope reproduces twenty-three covers, from The Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney’s Uncle Scrooge (Set IV), which originally appeared on UncleScrooge comic boob from 1958-1963. Nineteen of these covers, all by Barks, appear in a large 12 ¼” x 8 5/8”format for the first time. Every effort has been made to make these untrimmed recreations look as if Carl had colored them himself.
Also included in this portfolio is a copy of the new slipcase cover drawn and colored by Barks, especially for the Library. The reverse pages include Uncle Scrooge one page gags, examples of Barks' oil paintings, and more.

Set V - The portfolio of art contained in this envelope reproduces twenty-seven covers, from The Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge (Set V), which originally appeared on the front covers of Uncle Scrooge comic books from 1963-1967. The later Gold Key Uncle Scrooge logo has been replaced on all covers with the far superior, classic 1950s Dell logo to enhance the presentation of the art. All of the covers, all drawn by Barks, appear in a large 12 ¼” x 8 5/8” format to further add to their frameability. Every effort has been made to make these untrimmed recreations look as if Carl had colored them himself.
Also included inthis portfolio is a copy of the slipcase cover, originally drawn by Barks as an alternate cover for Uncle Scrooge 56 and published on the inside front cover of that comic in black and white. It appears here and in Set V of the Library in color for the first time.

SET VIII - The portfolio of art contained in this envelope reproduces sixty three covers from the Carl Barks' library of Walt Disney's Donald Duck (set VIII), which originally appeared on Walt Disney's Comics and Stories during 1948-1954, issues 95-166. One third of these covers appear in a large 12 ¼” x 8 5/8” format for the first time, beautifully recolored by Another Rainbow staff artist, Bill Pearson. Every effort has been made to recreate these selected covers in the way they might have looked if Carl Barks or the original artist who drew them had also done his own coloring.
Barks did not do all the covers from this period, and four have been chosen for the large format that were drawn by Walt Kelly. All twenty four leaves in this portfolio have been trimmed to include the entire covers as originally drawn.
Forty two smaller full color covers are reproduced in pairs on the reverse of twenty one of the prints, along with indexes to the covers and the stories that accompany each one.
Six additional full page color reproductions from the Library are enclosed, including four of Barks' works that have never before been seen in color, and the first brand new cover for WDC&S drawn by Barks in fourteen years (this cover also appears on the slipcase of the set). The other full page reproduces the only Barks' money bin oil painting - "Who's Out There?" to appear as a miniature (Plate 124) in the Fine Art of Walt Disney's Donald Duck.

Set IX - The portfolio of art contained in this envelope reproduces sixty-three covers from The Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney's Donald Duck (Set IX) which originally appeared on Walt Disney's Comics and Stories during 1954-1959. Fifteen of these covers, all by Barks, appear in a large 12 ¼” x 8 5/8” format for the first time. Every effort has been made to recreate these selected covers in the way they might have looked if Carl Barks had done his own coloring.
Forty-eight smaller full color covers are reproduced in groups on the reverse of the large prints, along with notes to the covers indicating where they originally appeared and which ones are by Barks. In addition, there are miniature reproductions of four Carl Barks Donald Duck family lithographs published by Another Rainbow. An added attraction is a large 12 ¼” x 8 5/8” full color version of the brand-new slipcase drawing for Set IX.
